The SciFi channel's new series Battlestar Galactica is as good as the orignal series of the same name was bad. I never liked the original series at all, but I love this new one. It stars Edward James Olmos as Commander Adama, Mary McDonnell as President Roslin, Tricia Helfer as #6 (a strikingly sexy Cylon), Jamie Bamber as Apollo, Katee Sackhoff as Starbuck, and Michael Hogan as Colonel Tigh. This series is the best science fiction I have seen on television in years, if not the best ever. The actors are all good, especially Olmos, McDonnell, and Sackhoff. This female Starbuck is brash, crude, and wonderful. Tricia Helfer as the Cylon #6 is stunning. She is so beautiful, and so tall! The writing is also amazing-amazingly good. The series centers on the characters, not the special effects, though the effects are quite good, also. The relationships between the characters are finely drawn and the details of their lives on the Galactica and the other ships in the fleet are fascinating. This is television science fiction for adults and I look forward to seeing it every Friday.
