I did watch the Oscars last night, though I had at first thought I wouldn't. since I have a strong aversion to Chris Rock. My curiousity won out, though, so I sat through most of it. I really wanted Virginia Madsen to win for Best Supporting Actress, not just because she turned in a fine performance, but because she is the younger sister of my favorite, the magnificent Michael Madsen, who unfortunately did not seem to be in the audience, unless the cameras missed him. I also was disappointed that Alan Alda did not win, but delighted that Clint Eastwood won for Best Director, and that Million Dollar Baby won for Best Picture, not to mention Hilary Swank for Best Actress. I enjoyed seeing and hearing Santana's green guitar and Yo-Yoma's wonderful accompaniment to the list of the deceased. Why was Beyonce allowed to sing three of the five nominated songs? Granted she has a beautiful voice, but why let one person monopolize the performances? My favorite moments were Sean Penn's defense of Jude Law, and the pride and admiration in the way Morgan Freeman looked at Hilary Swank and Clint Eastwood when they accepted their Oscars. My favorite dresses were worn by Virginia Madsen (a beautiful cobalt blue and black strapless), Drew Barrymore (black with a full skirt), and Charlize Theron (whose incredible beauty was enhanced by the seafoam green dress with the very full skirt made of ruffles). Also very beautiful were Natalie Portman (though she is so very thin), and Julia Roberts (who looks very good after the birth of her twins). The best cleavage award would have to go to Salma Hayek.
