Tonight, CBS's hit series Cold Case. aired a special episode written around eight of Bruce Springsteen's hit songs of the 1980s. The episode told the story of a group of 1980 classmates in a series of flash backs to their lives since their high school days.
The flash backs were written from ideas taken from the eight of Springsteen's songs selected for the episode. The songs used were: No Surrender; Bobbie Jean; Brilliant Disguise; Glory Days; I'm On Fire; Drive All Night; Stolen Car; and Atlantic City.
The story written from and around the ideas expressed in the songs made this the best episode of Cold Case I have ever seen, not to speak of hearing the music again. In the episode finale, Springsteen sings One Step Up, while we are shown scenes of the series characters remembering events of their pasts and how they relate these events to their current lives.
Excellent episode. Well written, acted and directed. TV Guide says this episode is unlikely ever to appear on DVD, as the rights to the music are so very expensive. Cold Case is one of my favorite current series, and I love Springsteen.
This is an imaginative and unique idea for television, beautifully done. Brilliant Disguise is one of my favorite Springsteen songs..
