Star Trek's Michael Piller Dies

Michael Piller, best known to television viewers around the world as the executive producer/co-creator of more than 500 hours of Star Trek, lost his long battle with an aggressive form of head & neck cancer on Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at 4:51 AM at his home in Los Angeles. He was 57. He is survived by his wife Sandra, daughter Brent and son Shawn.

James Doohan's Ashes

James Doohan's ashes will be carried into space soon, per Trek Today. The ashes will be launched into space along with tributes from his fans. The space flight is set for December 2005.

Here is an excerpt from the article:

"StarTrek.com has a link to a page at Space Services Inc. where fans can leave a tribute to be recorded on a CD that will be launched with the actors of the Scotty actor, who died on July 20th, the anniversary of the first moon walk. Messages of 500 characters or less will be recorded through November 15th."

Star Trek: Enterprise in Syndication

Star Trek: Enterprise will be syndicated beginning the week of September 17th. The first episodes shown will be the series openers, Broken Bow parts 1 and 2, but then the fourth season episodes will be shown .

New Star Trek Movie Script Finished

""Acclaimed writer Erik Jendresen signed on to write a script for a new feature film earlier this year and speaking with Dreamwatch he confirmed he has turned in his first draft to Paramount reports Trekweb.

Jendresen tells the magazine that the working title for the project is currently "Star Trek: The Beginning" which will not utilize any existing Trek characters. He says "This would take place just a couple of years after the end of the events in ENTERPRISE but well before the original series, and it would look at the inciting incident that started everything. The story is big and epic, and it isn't as antiseptic as the television stories had to be."

Don't expect a captain or starship either - "We're looking at a very small group of men and women, particularly focusing on one character. There are a couple of ships, including a principal ship, but this is not a traditional captain and crew of a starship story in the least.""

This is wonderful news. I really miss Star Trek:: Enterprise, and am very happy to know that there will be another movie, I hope in the very near future.

In late September, Viacom Consumer Products and Sona Mobile will release a new Star Trek themed cell phone.The phone will come with a multi-player online Star Trek game, as well as access to Trek-themed wallpapers, news, and ringtones.

Four Cities in Scotland Claim "Scotty"

Four cities in Scotland are claiming to be the birthplace of Montgomery Scott, the chief engineer of the original Star Trek series. Linlithgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, and Elgin all claim Scotty as a native son.

His birthplace was never specified on the series, or in the films. This dispute would probably tickle James Doohan's funny bone, if he knew it.Mr. Doohan passed away July 20, 2005.

Star Trek: Enterpriese Season 4 on DVD

Star Trek: Enterprise season four is due to be released on DVD November 1, 2005. These releases are coming out so fast and close together, it is difficult to see all of one season before the next season is released. Of course, this is better than not having them at all, or having them come out extremely far apart.
