The Traveling Dollar

Wheresgeorge.com is a website that offers you a chance to track the travels of the dollar bills in your wallet. The following is from the site welcome page:

"Do you ever wonder where that paper money in your pocket has been, or where it will go next? This is the place to find out.

All you need to do is enter the denomination, series, and serial number of any US dollar bill, and your current USA ZIP or Canadian Post Code in the box below."

The site requires registration in order to track a specific bill serial number, but is fun to try. Most users of the service print "wheresgeorge.com" on the bills they track, so others will learn of the site.

USB Wristband

The bracelet shown to the left is actually a flash USB drive styled as a rather attractive bracelet. Here is some information about the wristband:

RemoBeads

RemoBeads looks like a rather pretty bead bracelet, but it is actually a programmable remote control for your television, in the unusual form of a bracelet.

You can program your favorite tv shows to individual beads in the bracelet, then change the channel by pressing the bead. The beads glow in the dark, and you can add a sound.

Yahoo Web Crawler on My Library Blog

I got a big surprise as I was checking my Site Meter stats for my blogs tonight. The Yahoo web crawler spent over seven hours on my library blog, LibrarySupportStaffJobs. I saw a reference to Hot Jobs in the information on Site Meter, so I think my job postings are going to appear on Hot Jobs. I haven't yet had time to look at Hot Jobs, as I am too tired tonight.

I had no idea a web crawler moved so slowly. Seven hours on one blog? It must have sucked up every bit of information on my blog!! Life on the web is strange, indeed, and it occasionally offers up whopping big surprises like this.

Cory Doctorow Novel Available by RSS Feed

Cory Doctorow's novel, "Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town", is now available by RSS feed. The feed gives you a couple of pages each day. No mater when you subscribe to it, it sends you the book starting from the beginning.

What an innovative and interesting blending of RSS and publishing. Maybe more titles will be offered this way in the future.
