This is an 18 month temporary position.
Major Function:
Under direction of Head of Special Collections, this 18 month position provides collections processing (arranging and describing) manuscript and University Archives collections; EAD encoding of existing manuscript/photograph collections as per NWDA and/ or other consortial guidelines that may pertain; Rewriting of IJC archival finding guides to conform to SC & A standards; patron reference service including assisting with orders and inquiries; maintaining office records; performs other related duties as assigned.

Organizes and maintains the unit's specialized collections: 40% E
- Interprets and applies classification schemes, bibliographic standards, rules and procedures.
-Creates and maintains collection inventories and databases.
-Prepares finding guides and special reports.
-Keeps shelves and storage areas neat and orderly.
-Supervises TH staff in archival processing, filing, shelving and other tasks.
Provides bibliographic access to materials in Special Collections & Archives: 40% E
-EAD encoding of SC & A inventories and finding guides for manuscript, archives and photograph collections
-Assists with photographic ordering process.
-Demonstrates use of bibliographic database and other reference tools
-Retrieves requested materials from stacks
-Answers telephone, mail, and email inquiries.
Protects and preserves departmental collections: 10% E
-Follows established security policies and procedures
-Carefully handles materials as per archival practices to copy, process, transport and store
Maintains departmental operations : 5% E
-Keeps a daily count of materials used and questions answered
-Reports cumulated statistics on a monthly basis
-Records practices and procedures
Contributes to team effort by: 5% M
-Performs other related duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in at least two of the following areas: bibliographic search strategies; library classification schemes and descriptive cataloging standards; a variety of bibliographic sources and reference tools used in cataloging and acquisitions; library organization, services, technical service practices and terminology; or library automation.
Experience: coordinating, planning, and organizing library/archival activities; using computer applications software; training or instructing others in library/archival practices and procedures; compiling and analyzing information, and writing reports or procedures in a library/archives work setting.
Specific to this position: Willingness and demonstrated ability to lift, carry and shelve boxes weighing at least 35 lbs.
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in: archival processing of manuscript collections; archival processing of photograph collections; EAD encoding of archival finding guides.
College education
Archival certification
Knowledge of Idaho history, University of Idaho, and jazz music history.
Supervisory experience
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
