Job Vacancy Description: Montgomery College, Rockville Campus Library, has need for a Library Technical Assistant to support and assist students and patrons. This is an evening and weekend position and the normal work schedule is Saturday, 9:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m., Sunday, 10:30 a.m.-7:00 p.m., M-W, 12:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m. Work schedule is subject to change depending on the academic calendar/schedule.
Bargaining. Participation in a retirement plan is a condition of employment. Salary is $17.01 - 22.97/hr. Online applications must be received by 12 Noon, Monday, April 23, 2007. Job Summary: Position will assist patrons with basic computing and navigation skills; assist patrons at the Circulation Desk; and serve as a liaison with the College's Help Desk to assess software, hardware, or network problems. Position will work with library patrons and explain features and use of College workstations, browsers, and search engines; the libraries' automated online system (Voyager); and electronic databases. Position will also assist WiFi users; special needs patrons in the Assistive Technology Area; help students and staff check out materials at the Circulation Desk; maintain printers; and help to close the library. Computer assistance with library staff will include maintaining computers located within the library, the library training centers, and individual offices; maintaining the library's A/V equipment, working with IT Help Desk as appropriate; and assisting computer support and network engineers as requested.
Education & Training: An AA/AS degree in a computer-related field or a minimum of three years of experience with PC and Windows-based systems and presentation equipment is required. A Bachelor's degree in a computer-related field is preferred. As a condition of employment, an official transcript of degree is required at the time of employment.
Qualifications: A demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service and the ability to work with a diverse student body in a teaching/coaching environment is required. Examples of excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently is also required.
Experience: At least two years of recent experience working with computers, networking, multimedia, AV equipment, and MS Office software is required. Experience working in an academic library, working with the Voyager library system and assistive technologies such as Zoom Text, Kurzweil Reader and JAWS is preferred.
