Catalog Technician - Law School Library Staff Full-Time Accepting Applications
Responsibilities:
Please submit 2 copies of resume and/or application with Job No. 05-07, in addition to 2 copies of salary history. APPLICANTS MUST SUBMIT SALARY HISTORY IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE POSITION.
Provide assistance in the daily operations of the cataloging area. Perform searches on the OCLC database for new material to meet the library's needs. Perform edits of existing Library of Congress or member records on the OCLC system. Download OCLC records into the INNOPAC system. Edit and update bibliographic records in INNOPAC. Create new bibliographic records on OCLC. Search for and download authority records from OCLC. Assist with authority maintenance. Record statistical counts of titles that have been cataloged or withdrawn from the collection. Maintain holding status in OCLC. Correct reported typographical errors from OPAC records. Withdraw material. Process library materials by labeling, stamping, bar-coding and affixing security strip to all material in the collection. Process material on display in library technician area. Process material brought to the Circulation area for filing. Prepare gift books for Library Director to make decisions on retention.
Qualifications:
Required: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior library experience to demonstrate the ability to master basic library techniques. Experience with conducting searches on a bibliographic utility. Knowledge of MARC records and INNOPAC. Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with a diverse group of individuals at all levels. Writing skills to prepare clear and concise records for new materials. Computer skills in using a word processing application, preferably of Microsoft Word. Ability to read and understand bibliographic and item records. Ability to improve OPAC records when errors are found. Ability to search and download OCLC. Ability to use a book label printer. Ability to prioritize duties when faced with interruptions, distractions and fluctuating workload and complete them in a timely manner. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Proven ability to exercise independent thinking and judgment to carry out duties in a timely manner.
