Position
This position, at the Hanford Technical Library <
http://libraryweb.pnl.gov/>, provides Document Delivery services for the
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Hanford Site contractors and
external customers; works directly with library customers and WSU
Tri-Cities library staff to provide customer service at the Circulation
Desk; performs stacks maintenance activities and works on special
projects.
This position supports the Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery function
by ordering, processing, and sending items requested by library patrons
or other libraries, tracks requests and keeps staff informed of the
status of requests. This position uses the Internet to locate journal
articles and prints out requested items from the library's holdings,
assists in photocopying and scanning of requested items, sends them to
Library customers and maintains the appropriate records for copyright
control and charge back.
Duties also include providing customer service by staffing the
Circulation Desk, assisting library customers in locating materials,
receiving, processing and checking out books and technical reports,
daily shelving of materials in print and microform formats in the book,
journal and technical report collections and assisting with stacks
maintenance and shifting projects. This position will also provide
general Library support as needed. This position reports to the
Assistant Director for Access Services & Special Collections.
This is an hourly position, 30 hours/week.
Minimum Requirements
High school education and 3 or more years of library or administrative
experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
required. Experience working in a library environment required. Working
knowledge of library classification and call number systems, familiarity
with circulation modules in integrated library systems and interlibrary
loan/document delivery process required. Library Technician certificate
or degree preferred. Must be able to demonstrate proficient use of
standard office equipment and proficient use of MS Office Suite. Strong
oral and written communication and interpersonal skills are necessary.
Must be able to communicate effectively and positively, with coworkers
and a wide variety of library customers. Must have the ability to use
discretion in handling sensitive issues. Must be a good team player and
demonstrate initiative in identifying issues and problems and
recommending solutions.
Qualifications
MUST BE ABLE TO EASILY AND REPETITIVELY GRIP BOUND JOURNALS AND TO
SHELVE THEM AT A HEIGHT ABOVE ONE'S HEAD; PUSH HEAVILY LADEN BOOK CARTS
FOR DISTANCES OF 50-70 FEET THROUGHOUT THE DAY; LIFT ~25 LBS ON A
REGULAR BASIS; PHOTOCOPY AND SCAN JOURNAL ARTICLES, BOOK CHAPTERS AND
TECHNICAL REPORTS, OFTEN FOR 2 HOURS AT A TIME, PERHAPS SEVERAL TIMES
THROUGHOUT THE DAY.
