CIRCULATION ASSISTANT/CLERK I

Responsible for a variety of library activities including:

·        Responsible for all circulation service operations

·        Provides ready reference services to library customers

POSITION SUMMARY: The Information Technician II (ITII) works as a member of the public access reference team, providing reference and referral support for members of the public and the client; utilizing primarily web based reference tools and materials. The ITII provides general administrative support, assisting with compilation of monthly reports and maintaining inventory and project files.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Primary duties are in the provision of support for Agency public access reference services in e-mail, web form and paper mail formats. Supporting reference and referral through direct responses and assisting in evaluation of response content.

Assisting in the preparation of monthly statistical and narrative reports for the paper mail and e-mail reference services, as well as assisting librarians in maintaining lists of resources, publications, websites, etc. on various environmental topics.

Updating of standard response templates for correspondence and providing support for the comments processing system that is utilized by staff for tracking e-mail and web form submissions from public users.

Providing general administrative support to supervisory staff and in support of the team’s tasking. Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Demonstrated strong written and oral communication abilities. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment. Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, and office application. Proficiency with WWW searching and research.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of two (2) years experience working in a library. Bachelor’s degree is preferred with 2-3 years reference support/public access services in a library or virtual reference setting.

Off-site storage pick-ups are arranged on an as needed basis and include arranging for pick-ups, keeping appropriate amount of new boxes on site, and all related computer functions. Create, print and apply bar-codes to archived folders. In addition this position required data entry and the maintenance of the Records databases.
